Reopen a stainless scrap baler proposal when the feed or receiving requirement changes in a way the original review did not cover. Give the supplier a before-and-after material brief and identify the affected assumptions. Do not extend a previous recommendation to a new stream merely because both materials are called stainless steel.
Recover the original material basis
Start with the material description, photographs, sample references and receiving requirement used for the existing proposal. Record what period and production stream they represented. If the original brief simply says “stainless scrap,” ask what the supplier actually evaluated before treating the proposal as a defined baseline.
The stainless steel baler collection asks buyers to separate grades and describe form, maximum dimensions and attached non-metal parts. The Y82 vertical baler listing also directs buyers to compare the feed opening and required bale shape and request current specifications. Neither reference establishes suitability for an undocumented change.
Use a before-and-after change brief
| Input | Previously reviewed | Now proposed | Question to reopen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grade identity | Known source and identification basis | New source or changed mixture | What evidence identifies the new stream? |
| Physical form | Sheet, profile or defined offcut mix | Changed shapes or mix | Which feed and compression assumptions require review? |
| Dimensions | Recorded typical and largest pieces | New range and largest pieces | Does the current drawing cover the proposed feed? |
| Attachments or contamination | Previously disclosed condition | New or uncertain condition | What clarification or evaluation is needed? |
| Receiving requirement | Agreed bale and material requirement | Changed downstream requirement | Which output assumptions remain acceptable? |
Put “unknown” in a field that has not been established. Purchasing should preserve the source of a grade description rather than infer grade from a photograph or an informal name. Ask the appropriate qualified party how the material should be identified for the project.
Describe a change without predicting its effect
Consider a hypothetical buyer whose original brief covered separated sheet offcuts from one production line. The buyer later proposes mixed sheet and profile offcuts from two lines. A useful update identifies the new shapes, sources, measured size range and any attached material. It does not assume the change will produce the same bale weight or require a particular larger machine.
The supplier can then identify which proposal assumptions need a new technical review or representative evaluation. Keep the unchanged facts visible as well: if the site or receiving processor is the same, state that explicitly. This helps reviewers focus on the actual difference without discarding the project history.
Separate material acceptance from machine review
The receiving processor may have its own requirements for grade separation, contamination and bale arrangement. Obtain the current requirement from that party and pass the relevant information into the equipment review. A machine’s ability to compress material would not, by itself, establish acceptance of the output by a downstream buyer.
Record two decisions where needed: the supplier’s response on the proposed machine configuration and the receiving party’s response on the intended output. Keep each answer tied to the material description it covers.
Make the review outcome explicit
Use a short disposition record: change reference, affected proposal, evidence received, reviewer, outcome and open conditions. Possible outcomes include requesting more information, seeking a representative evaluation, revising the proposal, or documenting that a named assumption remains applicable. These are record states, not predictions of the supplier’s decision.
Do not use this worksheet to set operating limits or approve use of changed feed in an installed machine. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and obtain the necessary technical review before changing actual operation. This article provides no operating procedure or performance guarantee.
Send Nanyuan the material-change brief with the original proposal reference, current photographs, measured dimensions and downstream requirement. Ask which existing assumptions remain valid and what evidence is needed to close the changed fields.
