A gantry metal cutting machine is usually evaluated for a scrap yard that needs a controlled route for reducing large metal pieces. The selection should start with the material stream and site layout, then move to the hydraulic gantry shear configuration and verified operating limits.
Record the real scrap sizes
List beams, profiles, pipes, sheet, bundles and mixed bulky pieces separately. Note the longest regular piece, the largest section and any material that needs pre-cutting. Include photos with a scale and identify grades that must remain separate. A nominal blade length or force figure does not establish the complete cut envelope.
Define the cut target
State the maximum acceptable outgoing length or section for the next process, buyer or transport route. Ask the supplier to explain how hold-down, feed control and discharge support that target. If the yard needs more than one output condition, describe each one rather than asking for a single generic capacity.
Check feeding and staffing
Draw the route from stockpile to machine and from discharge to storage or truck loading. Confirm the excavator or loader reach, operator position, safe working zone and material separation practice. The feed route can limit practical production even when the selected machine has adequate nominal capability.
Include installation and service access
- Available electrical supply and connection distance
- Foundation or civil work required by the selected model
- Clearance for loading, discharge and blade service
- Delivery and lifting route into the yard
- Guarding, isolation and local operating requirements
